World’s first case of 4 year old suffering from
Ewing Sarcoma Liver Cancer got registered at
Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital& Research Center

Dr. Shashikant Saini, Surgeon at BMCHRC did a successful surgery

Jaipur : Surgery of Ewing Sarcoma Liver was conducted by Dr Shashikant Saini, Surgical Oncologist, Bhagwan Mahaveer Cancer Hospital and Research Center. No such case has been witnessed till date, for such a young age of 4 years. The patient got registered at the hospital on June 2018, CT Scan was conducted and a 11 cm tumor was diagnosed in left side of the liver. 


With further investigation (CD99+, FLI1+) including biopsy and IHC test, cancer got confirmed. The patient was given chemotherapy and after that the left part of his liver (Left Hepatectony) was removed.
Liver surgery which in itself is extremely complicated process and that at a very young age made its far more challenging for Dr. Shashikant Saini. Fortunately, the surgical procedure was successful and currently patient is undergoing the remaining sessions of chemotherapy in supervision of Dr Pawan Agarwal, Medical Oncologist at BMCHRC.



Till date only four cases of Ewing Sarcoma Liver Cancer have been recorded across the globe and in all of those patients’ age was around 20 years. This one at the age of 4 is considered to be very rare and therefore Dr. Sashikant Saini is under the preparation to formally report the same.

Reasons are unknown 

Dr. Shashikant Saini informed that the main cause for lever cancer is the consumption of alcohol and viral infections (HBSAG/HCA), but unfortunately the cause of Ewing Sarcoma Lever at such a young age is unknown. Till date no such case has been found in the medical sphere so no record is available with regards to it causes.
